Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel – the one-time jewel in the crown of Canadian Pacific Railroad hotels set in a huge pine forest at the heart of Banff National Park.
Its unique setting and breathtaking views make the Scottish baronial castle-styled hotel a natural attraction for visitors from around the world, including world-renowned guests King George IV and Queen Elizabeth II.
Besides the unique design and setting, What really impressed me is the hotel’s public space: grand hall, lounge area, stairwells and sitting areas, each with unique design and function.
We always enjoy wandering along the halls of this hotel no matter we stay or not. The gallery stores in the hotel are our favorite place to visit.
The Rundle lounge is our favorite place to enjoy delicious food and stunning views of Bow Valley and Rundle Mountain (see the picture below).
The Fairmont Springs Hotel offers various size of guest rooms, from basic Fairmont rooms, Dulex rooms, Junior Suites, Executive Suites, One or Two Bedroom Suites to Presidential Suites.
The basic Fairmont rooms, used to have a reputation for being quite stuffy and cramped, and hot in summer decade ago. This problem has been addressed by renovation.
Now, the basic rooms are brighter and cooler (air condition added). My in-laws stayed one of basic room and they did not feel small even though with the same size as before. The bathrooms are small but very clean. They were happy.
We had stayed in one of Deluxe rooms, one size larger than Fairmont, with stunning views of the Bow Valley and Tunnel Mountain for my company’s Christmas party. We love it.
Suite rooms starting from Junior Suites, which offer large sitting/living area with Bow Valley Views.
One / Two Bedroom Suites offer you separate sitting area for additional comfort and privacy.
Staying in Presidential Suite, you will enjoy panoramic 360 views of the Bow Valley, Spray Valley, golf course and Bow Falls from the picturesque windows.
Keep in you mind, the basic guest room are designed for two of you. If you are traveling with family, you better choose at least Delux room or higher. Click here for detail information of Banff Springs Hotel room options
What impresses the visitors is incredible amenities inside the hotel, including the first-class Willow Stream Spa, a bowling center, horse stables, various shops, and restaurants.
Marilyn Monroe stayed at the hotel in 1954 during filming the movie “A River of No Return”. The photo above: She was enjoying golfing at Banff Springs Hotel Golfing Course.
The hotel offers the wide variety of traditional, regional and contemporary dining experiences. You have eight restaurants / lounges / Pubs to choose inside of the hotel.
We had very nice dinner at fine dinning The Banffshire Club, we also enjoyed the breakfast buffet there as well.
Our favorite casual restaurant is Rundle Lounge who offers us unforgetable delicious food and dramatic view of Spray River, Bow Valley and Rundle Mountain through the top-bottom windows.
We had our lunch there almost every time we visit the Banff Springs Hotel.
Here I am telling you a little story about my experience with Rundle Lounge. Normally, I am not interested in eating burgers at any place. Earlier, every time we came, my husband always order their Steak Burger, and I was laughing at him: “You come long way here just for the burger?! You can get it any place back home.” (We live in Calgary, one and half hour away from Banff). He told me its taste is very different from any other restaurant he has been. I did not believe until I tried one day. Since then, I order the burger almost every time we come here.
You also might like to have a great meal at Golf Course Clubhouse (which locates at the heart of The Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course – back of the hotel) right after you finish 9 or 18 holes. There are shuttle service between the Clubhouse and the hotel’s main entrance every half hour.
There are 17 shops and services in the hotel, including sport shops (Ski, Mountain and golf), clothing and gifts shop, galleries, jewllery stores (you can find Alberta’s germstone Ammolite), groceries, movie rental, liquor store and photography service.
I love to wondering through those gallery and jewelery stores in this hotel.
Their unique collection and design always inspire me, I felt walking through museum.
I am obsessed with all fossils and ammonites.
If you are outdoor adventurer, this hotel offers you exciting outdoor activities for all seasons, such as 27-hole championship golf course, downhill and cross-country skiing, Dog-sleding, Snow Shoeing, Skating (free), horseback riding, water rafting, fishing, and hiking.
If you are traveling with little children, and you really want to do some adventurous activities without bring little ones, you can dropped off your children at their babysitting service, and you are ready to go to enjoy and have a fun.
After a whole day outdoor activities, can you imagine that you spend time at the first class spa – Willow Stream spa, relax in one of mineral pools, bring a book to sit by the fire or the pool …
